Escape from London to… Amsterdam
You can’t read this without watching that. That’s right -the video, above. The reason I created it, is because I wanted to spell out to you what kind of a traveller I am, before you get in too deep with reading this write-up. You see, most people who travel the world do so like a character from a Jack Kerouac novel; all back-combed hair, poetic anecdotes and an SLR camera in tow. They go abroad, change their religion, fall in love, then their voice drops by two octaves and ‘yah’ becomes part of their everyday speech, they take yoga classes during sunsets and finally look into adopting a local street kid. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids and yoga but that’s just not me.
My travelling style is very different and I make no excuse for that -instead, I celebrate it. I’m all disorganisation, double-booked flights and invalid passports. No, really -thank God for London Victoria’s Emergency Passport office. I travel on a teeny budget because I can’t turn to the Bank of Dad to cover costs. I get lost easily, I drink beer and I occasionally eat dinner in the nearest McDonald’s so that I can afford another round. I did it in Thailand (they had spicy fries), Paris (they serve beer with their Big Macs) and Cyprus (I was too drunk to remember any extras). One thing which remains present on all of my trips though, is fun and great memories. So, if you’re interested, have a read of my travel rundown and hopefully you’ll feel inspired to visit what is my second favourite city in the world: Amsterdam.
